ME storyline Storyline_II and Storyline_III are the rest of the plot. There's... quite a lot to ME. Sadly the "Plot" section of the specific game wikis is pretty much non-existent, thus storyline entries.
Oh right and On Shepard specifically for reference on what I'm referring to by Spacer and Sole Survivor for those not familiar with the canon if nothing else.
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
YEAR IN SCHOOL/FACULTY POSITION: HS-3
APPEARANCE:
Though slightly taller than average, Jenn Shepard doesn't exactly stand out in a crowd. At five foot eight, she's slim but fairly well muscled for her size. Her medium brown hair is worn short more for practicality's sake than for any particular fashion choice. Her eyes are a nice shade of blue, but there's nothing overly special about them either.
For reference her pb is Jessica Stroup - 1, 2, 3
PERSONALITY:
At first glance Jenn Shepard is a disciplined and well-mannered young woman. Polite and even a little formal, she might even come across as awkward to strangers who aren't used to what might seem, to them, to be almost archaic in mannerism. Not that Jenn is always that way, far from it! It's just that she's been trained from a young age that there are certain ways to act when around adults. Yes, she does indeed use ma'am and sir when talking to adults, though she's polite enough that if asked to refer to someone otherwise she certainly will. This also means that as a rule, every teacher at the school will be referred to as Instructor So-and-So unless she's told not to. Why? Because the world she's lived in for pretty much her entire life has been really big about titles and respect.
Around people her own age, Jenn is completely different than the reserved person that gets reflected to the world at large. She's outgoing and talkative with a lot of opinions about things. Some that were slightly unusual in her parents circles, will fit right in now that she's at Xavier's. See, she's always been big on equality for everyone with no qualifiers for who deserves certain rights and who doesn't. Admittedly, it's been a little trying for her lately since it became apparent that she was a mutant. It's one thing to believe that mutants have rights and another completely to actually be one of those mutants. Considering it's affected her life plans it's hard not to bear some resentment over the matter.
Outwardly Jenn acts confident and unshakeable. She makes decisions and then sticks to them, because what's done is done and there's no changing the past. At least that's what she says; however, reality is that deep down she's constantly second guessing herself. Compound this with her life's new uncertainty and she's eventually going to hit a point where everything in life is too much. With all these changes it's as yet unclear if she'll come through these trying times a better, more rounded personparagon or if she's just going to quietly crumble under all the pressure she's putting on herself renegade.
Jenn's an extremely loyal person and concepts like friends, squad, and team have a lot of meaning to her. They're pretty much different variations on the word family as far as she's concerned and she acts as such. She doesn't take very kindly to what she perceives as threats to her family and there's not much she wouldn't do to make sure that the people she cares about are happy. However, Jenn's not someone who holds a grudge. In fact, she's the sort of person who freely gives out second chances and sometimes maybe even third or fourth depending on the situation.
When left to her own devices, Jenn is an accepting young woman who's friendly, loyal, and trusting to a fault. She's also a total geek about action movies and she has a small thing for collecting model planes too. Jenn privately prefers watching movies in her own space instead of in theaters. Largely because she wouldn't feel right throwing popcorn or pointing out glaring flaws in action sequences or anything related to the military ever.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Jenn's abilities aren't anything particularly flashy. She simply possesses an advanced physiology that grants her above average: strength, endurance, agility, speed, reflexes, durability, and healing.
To be clear, she'll never be able to beat a speedster, neither does her strength compare to someone with super strength, and she'll never win a speed healing contest either for that matter.
AU HISTORY:
The daughter of two career soldiers, Jenn has lived a fairly normal life. Sure, she's moved around a bunch as her parents' assignments have changed, but even that's not so strange. Her early life passed pretty uneventfully, though strangers often remarked about how well behaved the Shepard's daughter was. Not only was she a mild manner child, but she did well in her studies. At a young age, Jenn became aware that the better her grades were the more approval she received from the adults around her. So she worked hard and constantly studied to ensure that she'd be able to meet the constantly growing expectations of her elders.
While good grades required constant work, by the time Jenn was finishing middle school it was clear that her true gifts were physical ones. While she excelled at individual sports like track, team sports were where her heart really lay. It was one thing to do well as an individual, but working together with a team to achieve greatness was an incredible new feeling. For a while, she got swept away in her success in sports, but when her grades started to suffer Jenn was quickly and quietly curtailed to a much easier workload.
As the daughter of officers and possessing a sterling school record, it was a surprise to no one when Jennifer was accepted to a prestigious Military Academy. Sure, it meant leaving her parents to attend a boarding school, but as she had aspirations to follow in her parents footsteps she was more than overjoyed to enroll. Jenn quickly bloomed at the Academy as the smaller class size gave her more time with her instructors. Soon her academic and extra-curricular schedules were packed and while it was an effort to fulfill everything that was demanded of her on such a grueling schedule, failure wasn't an option.
Then everything started changing during her junior year. It started off subtly, strange results on a physical exam. It was written off at the time, but later there were other small signs that something was off. For the longest time it continued to be little things, during these incidents she was simply written off as being lucky. Then something happened that would change all of that forever. One afternoon in a lab, after almost a week of bending the rules to cram in a little extra study time, she slipped up on a safety issue. She didn't tighten a clamp properly and so partway through the lab her beaker full of test tubes tried to topple off. Not only did she catch the beaker, but there wasn't any scalding on her hands despite exposure to the extremely heated glass. This too might have been brushed across as a lucky incident, but the entire class saw her.
Life changed rapidly after that, and soon Jenn found herself back at home after the Academy basically kicked her out for being a mutant. Once a rising star with a promising career ahead of her, she now found her future suddenly bleak all because her mutation gave her an "unfair advantage" over everyone else. Jenn took it really hard and for a while she just shut down completely. So far as she was concerned, her life might as well have been over. It was an understatement to say that Hannah Shepard was concerned for her only child. So she struggled to find a way to help her move on with her life. Xavier's wasn't her first choice, admittedly, but after careful consideration and several conversations it became clear that it was the best place for her offspring. Honestly Jenn didn't particularly want to go to the Institute, but their home was was by no means a democracy. So when Hannah said go, Shepard the younger reluctantly said yes ma'am and went.
Notes: To explain, this AU is loosely based off of Shepard's spacer history. While I was tempted to add a "sole survivor" accident type scenario as how she's ultimately outed for her powers, I was concerned that adding such an event might be a little too heavy handed. Not to mention it seemed a tad overdramatic. (Though lesser so than if I'd tried to incorporate the War Hero or Reckless character events.)
SAMPLE
1ST PERSON SAMPLE:
[While it would have been easier to use text for this first contact, Jenn figured that would have been taking the cowards way out. So no, she would do this via video so everyone could see her face. She'd already spent too long moping about her fate as it was.]
I just transferred here from a military academy in North Carolina, my name's Jenn Shepard.
[Because it was polite to introduce herself, even if she's been on campus for a few days already. Not dwelling on that though, because she was posting for a reason.]
At my old school I was involved in a lot of extracurriculars, but I haven't heard too much about what's offered here yet. I prefer team sports, but right now I'll take what I can get.
I know it's not a team sport, but does anyone here fence? I've been taking lessons since I was a kid, and I don't want to get out of practice.
[There's a small moment of hesitation before she continues resolutely.]
Do a lot of people stay here over break?
[Since she's only just arrived, her mother had been very clear about how it'd be best if she stayed at the school for break.]
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
"Dear Mother."
It was the only thing written on the paper and even then it wasn't her first attempt to write this particular correspondence. Scattered over her desk and on the floor were perhaps a dozen sheets of wadded up stationary. Each page had a different greeting written on it - everything from "To the desk of Captain H. Shepard" to "Hey Mom" as Jenn struggled to find the words she needed to talk to her mother. Turns out this idea was a lot harder than it had sounded initially.
To say that she really didn't want to be at Xavier's was an understatement, but orders were orders so it wasn't like there was anything she could do about it. Once the Captain, no her Mother's mind was made up there was no changing it. As stubborn as Jenn was, she understood that there were some battles she just couldn't win.
Leaning back in her chair, Jenn sighed and slowly allowed her weight to shift the balance of the chair until it was only balancing on two legs. Eyes focused on a small spot on the ceiling, Jenn tried once again to put words to the thoughts churning around inside of her head. Such moments of quiet contemplation had been rare for Shepard, but things were changing dramatically since her mutation was discovered. Still this uncertainty frustrated Jenn, so she hoped that this phase at least didn't last very long. She was a decisive young woman by nature, so her own insecurity was grating on her nerves emotionally. Who was this scared little girl and where was the confident soldier she'd been just a few weeks ago?
Leaning forward, she shifted her balance quickly enough that the chair made a loud thump as all four legs once again came in contact with the floor. Fake it until you make it, wasn't that what they always said? She was tired of her own sulking, it was time to take command of her own life once more.
Of course this meant tossing her last piece of stationary, but that wasn't a huge loss. Who used the mail system when there was e-mail anyway? Booting up her laptop it only took her a moment to type out a message for her mother that sounded completely different from everything she'd planned on saying only half an hour before.
"Arrived at school safely and on-time, there were no incidents on the way here. I start classes soon. For a special school, they still have most of the classes my old school had.
Will have to see if anyone here fences, no way I'm going to be rusty for annual match up. I'm going to beat you one of these days!
Good luck with your new assignment.
Love,
Jenn "
